HEADSTONE CLEANING and RENOVATION IN MOUNT JEROME
The renovation of a memorial is one of our specialities. It involves the process of reassembling the headstone, base and kerbing to its original state.
After time and natural sinkage the headstone may lean to one side and the kerbing can fall away from the joints, sometimes the kerbing can crack and break (See photo directly below).
The renovation would involve the leveling of the ground and replacing and rejointing the headstone base and kerbing. A concrete border may be added around a monument to protect it further. This would involve a 4″ x 6″ concrete path around the kerbing and headstone (see ‘Maintenance’).
Because of the nature of marble and granite weathering plays a big part in the aging of the stone. This in turn may cause small cracks and eventually the breaking away of particles or larger pieces.
This usually means the grafting on of newer sections and moulding to match original design. Renovation usually involve taking apart all the individual parts and resetting same.
We reset headstones that are leaning or falling to one side. For information on restoration see our “Restoration Page”
